In February we're reading about poverty and income inequality.
Read a book that directly addresses these issues or in which a character has to live under these conditions. Some suggested books for this month are: Maid: hard work, low pay, and a mother's will to survive by Stephanie Land Evicted: poverty and profit in the American City by Matthew Desmond Hillbilly Elegy: a memoir of a family and culture in crisis by J. D. Vance Sold on a Monday by Kristina McMorris To Love and Be Loved: a personal portrait of Mother Teresa by Jim Towey The Inclusive Economy: how to bring wealth to America's Poor by Michael Tanner There are displays at the library (for youth and adults) with books that fit this topic or you can ask any staff member to help you. On Tuesday, February 28 at 5:30 pm, you are invited to participate in a discussion group to share what you read. |
2023 Reading Challenge!
This year our reading challenge has more challenge to it! We're calling it: There's more to the story. Each month will have a topic that is a current issue (some may call it a wicked issue) that many people are facing today. Read a book--fiction or nonfiction--and then come to a discussion group to tell us about it. Why are we doing this? Because the library is a great place to explore ideas and discuss hard things. Because we can learn about issues through story--true or not. Because now is the right time (and it's not a big election year!). |

1,000 Books before Kindergarten
We are joining this nation-wide movement for every child to be read 1,000 books before they start kindergarten. You can keep track in logs of 100 books each or on the Beanstack app. Every reading of a book counts--no matter if it is the first time, second time, or twenty-second time!
Stop by youth services for more information and to pick up a paper log.
